The award honors the successful 5G deployment at the Baltic Container Terminal in Riga, setting a global benchmark for efficient, safe port operations.
It’s autumn, the harvest season, and LMT is already harvesting the fruits of deliberate work. Together with Druid Software, LMT has been named Port Segment Winner at the TeckNexus Private Network Awards 2025 (MWC) for the 5G deployment at the Baltic Container Terminal in the Freeport of Riga. The winners were announced in October 2025 at MWC Las Vegas.
Leveraging Druid’s field-proven Raemis core platform and LMT’s integration expertise, the partners successfully completed a groundbreaking private 5G deployment. This achievement is actively transforming port operations, demonstrating the power of private networks to drive operational excellence and unlock innovation within a demanding industrial environment.
The deployment equipped the Baltic Container Terminal with a dedicated private 5G network, replacing existing, less reliable WiFi infrastructure. This robust connectivity facilitates mission-critical applications such as real-time crane automation and precise IoT tracking and control. The result is demonstrably uninterrupted operations and a significant increase in overall safety levels.
The implementation of the private 5G network has yielded significant business improvements. The Baltic Container Terminal reports a 30% reduction in vessel and truck turnaround times. Furthermore, the new system enables higher productivity through automation and coordinated data usage, alongside improved safety achieved via stable, comprehensive connectivity throughout the terminal area.
During the MWC Las Vegas, a dedicated session was held to showcase the Award winners. That included Druid Software and LMT presenting the private 5G deployment in port. LMT was represented by Kārlis Vilciņš, LMT’s Head of System Integration Business. Within the scope of MWC Las Vegas, Kārlis also joined the GSMA discussion on private network challenges and future expectations.
The TeckNexus Private Networks Leadership Awards are designed to recognize the most impactful innovations and deployments that are shaping the future of private networks across enterprise, government, and service provider sectors. This year’s recipients included major international innovators such as Nokia, Ericsson, Spirent, NTT DATA, and Boingo Wireless.
The specific Port Segment Award recognizes companies that demonstrate exceptional advancements in port operations by deploying private networks. This category specifically highlights enhanced operational efficiency, security, and real-time coordination across terminal, vessel, and cargo activities.
