Technology will allow to deliver the first rocket built in Latvia into open space, at the height of 100 km during Latvian Centenary celebration in 2018.
Unique LMT 5G ready technology to reach the space
5G ready high-altitude communication solution enabling the use of the mobile internet at up to 30 km.
Mobile data transfer capacity, performance, and availability are a prerequisite for the introduction of next-generation technology innovations in various industries. Therefore, Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT) has created a unique 5G technology-compatible high-altitude communication solution that enables the use of the mobile internet at up to 30 km.
LMT is one of the few mobile technology developers in the world who have succeeded in creating a viable high-altitude data transmission solution. Uplink mobile antennas that create a vertical data tunnel and allow the signal to be transferred at a very wide range provide successful operation. The solution developed by LMT is an important milestone in the development of aviation, defense and space exploration technologies.
LMT data transmission technology will be used for a space rocket pilot project “The first 100 km in space for Latvia” in the 2018. Using mobile “5G Ready” base stations and the LMT high-altitude communication solution, data transmission from the rocket launcher stratospheric platform will be provided, allowing the reception of a live video from the rocket, sending a signal for the rocket launch, separating the platform from the lift ramp, and launching the missile parachute.
“Latvia, its scientists and space exploration enthusiasts are not necessarily beginners in space exploration – we have already done a great deal in this sphere, as evidenced by the many international level achievements and successful cooperation projects. With our support for this technically challenging and innovative space exploration project, our goal is to remind that there are a lot of intellectual resources in Latvia which will enable our country to play a more important role in the space industry in the future. This is a rapidly growing industry, in which even a small country like Latvia can become a significant player”, says Juris Binde, President, LMT.
The goal of the project “The first 100 km in space for Latvia” is to deliver the first rocket built in Latvia into open space, at the height of 100 km in 2018 celebrating the centenary of the Republic of Latvia. Latvia would then be the 2nd country in the world where rocket enthusiasts achieve this. The first prototype rocket was tested at the end of 2016, active preparation and technology testing is underway for the launch in November 2018.
