LMT has become a full member of the 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA), united by a goal to drive Europe’s leadership in telecommunications technologies and innovation.

6G-IA is the voice for European industry and research in the next-generation telecommunications field. The association also serves as the private sector representative in pan-European initiatives such as the 5G Public Private Partnership (5G-PPP) and the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU). By joining the organization, LMT joins 44 other industry members, as well as many more research, association, and SMB members.

LMT is the first operator from the Baltic countries to join the 6G-IA, and the first from Latvia to join as full industry members. LMT will contribute to the 6G-IA organization by bringing expertise and research capabilities to the community. This collective knowledge works to move the association’s various workgroups and initiatives forward, even further driving Europe’s leadership in next-gen communications.

LMT is decisively on a path to becoming a European leader in telecommunications technologies and innovations. We already serve as an example to other countries in defense and maritime innovation verticals. We have demonstrated that Latvia’s technology industry is globally competitive in drone, 5G networks, and IoT solutions. Our mission to cement Europe’s leadership in deploying and developing next-generation networks is shared by 6G-IA. I'm certain that LMT’s knowledge and expertise will be a valuable addition to the 6G-IA community.

Ingmārs Pūķis, vice-president at LMT

With extensive experience in the practicalities of next-generation technology ideation, development of business applications, and rollout, as well as in the theoretical applications of new technologies to existing sectors through rigorous R&D activities, LMT is able to contribute to all facets of the organization’s activities.

Among LMT’s contributions to 6G-IA are:

  • Expertise in Advanced Use Cases: Proven experience in developing and deploying advanced 5G use cases, which serve as a foundation for 6G innovations.
  • Active Contribution on 5G & 6G Research: LMT actively works on future 3GPP feature R&D using 5G Open Core platforms.
  • Collaborative Network: Extensive international partnerships with academic, industrial, and public-sector stakeholders.
  • Real-World Testing and Implementation: Access to live networks and testbeds for real-world experimentation and validation of cutting-edge technologies.
  • Focus on Societal Impact: Commitment to developing applications that address critical societal challenges, including sustainability, security, and digital inclusion.

LMT has invested significant resources to explore and advance the use of next-generation networks, productively exploiting them to extract the most value possible. This has included developing products on the mobile network, intersection red light management solutions, smart air quality sensors, and more. Their R&D efforts in collaboration with various Horizon Europe, Connecting Europe Facility,  EDF, and NATO projects have pushed the known boundaries of the applications of mobile networks, such as in the maritime sector, in defence and dual-use scenarios, in city infrastructure scenarios, and more.

LMT’s participation in 6G-IA will only serve to further extend the knowledge and expertise gained, and jointly increase Europe’s competitiveness in next-gen mobile excellence.
