To deliver new 5G services across Latvia, LMT has selected Ericsson to spearhead its ongoing network transformation. Ericsson will modernize LMT’s subscriber data management, shifting it to a new service-based architecture. This partnership will create a more secure, flexible, and future-ready network.
In the following year, Ericsson will upgrade LMT’s cloud infrastructure to an NFVI (Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure) solution, enabling flexible, software-based network functions and opening up many new possibilities for network upgrades.
Moreover, LMT’s IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) will be upgraded, alongside consolidating its subscriber data systems into a future-ready core network architecture. This lays a strong foundation for scalable, high-quality service innovation. And while users may not notice new features immediately, this transition enhances network reliability and prepares LMT for future services by modernizing key background systems.
By transitioning to cloud infrastructure and upgrading these essential core network functions, we gain improved operational flexibility and the ability to implement future updates with minimum disruption. Ericsson’s modular, cloud-native architecture is designed for seamless scalability and provides the essential bedrock for us to build LMT’s broader digitalization program on and introduce valuable 5G services to our subscribers,
Aigars Benders, Technical Director, LMT.This deal builds on the long-standing relationship between Ericsson and LMT, deepening their ongoing collaboration across several domains, including mission-critical communications projects.
According to Niclas Backlund, Head of Ericsson’s Global Customer Unit Telia, this upgrade goes beyond replacing old systems. It equips LMT with a 5G standalone-ready cloud infrastructure and subscriber data management solution, providing an agile and robust platform to meet evolving customer needs and support new digital services.
