LMT’s traffic monitoring system now resides at two intersections in Daugavpils – between the 18. Novembra and Varsavas Streets and the 18. Novembra and Valkas Streets. The system will provide additional traffic monitoring for the next six months in a test mode to determine how road users comply with the traffic lights.

The installation of the traffic monitoring system in Daugavpils was LMT’s initiative. The system combines high-resolution cameras with machine vision and edge computing. Traffic infringements are evaluated on the edge, and if an infraction is detected, the information is sent to servers through the mobile network for further analysis.

LMT's system has been installed at two of our city's busiest intersections, with high traffic volumes. The cameras will record offenses such as running red lights and others. The data received will be processed by the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) and sent to the municipal police to assess their severity. I would like to stress that the solution will run in test mode for six months, and no fines will be imposed. It's important to realize that the main objective of these measures is not to punish but to prevent tragedies and improve safety. Such monitoring systems not only record infringements but also help to change drivers' behavior – they become more attentive and more willing to obey traffic rules, knowing that their reckless behavior may be caught,

Igors Aleksejevs, Chairman of the City Economy and Development Committee of the Daugavpils City Council, explains

LMT’s traffic monitoring systems are already in place in Liepaja, Riga, and Jurmala. In Liepaja and Jurmala, LMT’s solution has been officially incorporated into the city’s traffic monitoring scheme. This means that the information recorded about potential traffic violations is passed on to the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) and the municipal police, who decide on the offense and the penalty to be imposed.

Since its installation, LMT’s solution has helped to reduce the number of infringements in Liepāja by roughly five times. Following this success, LMT’s solution has also been implemented and is operational in the Austrian city of Graz and the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius.

As experience in Latvia, Austria, and now Lithuania shows, our technology helps to improve road safety while educating drivers and gradually improving driving culture. We are pleased to be working with the Daugavpils City Council and run our system in test mode. This improves road safety and sets an example for other cities with complex regulated intersections,

says Juris Binde, President of LMT.

LMT’s traffic monitoring system will be installed at two more high-traffic junctions within six months. After the testing phase, the Daugavpils Municipal Authority will be able to either buy or lease the equipment.
